As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. -- Isaiah 55:10-11

Purposed Rain

One of the hardest things for me as a blogger is picking a template for my blog.  I have so many ideas, so many facets of my writing and my life, and I want to find something that encompasses all that God has put in me and all He is doing at that time.  Usually, though, I end up picking something about Him and what He is to me at that moment.

For now, the theme for this blog is Picture Window.  At first, it seemed rather dreary--the dark clouds, the rain, the ominous mountains in the distance.  Except, it made me smile, and I felt right at home.

The rain captured me.

I love rain. I love to listen to it fall on the roof and hit the windows and splash off the eves in miniature waterfalls.  Mostly, I love to stand in it.  I love to just be while it falls on me, washing my face, refreshing my arms, soaking my clothes.  It is peace falling from the sky in small droplets of water.  Rain's ability to wash away not only the physical dirt but the mental and emotional dirt, too, amazes me.

However, rain means more to me than a good shower. Isaiah 55 compares the Word of God to rain, and it is attached to a wondrous promise.

As the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return to it without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. (verses 10-11)

God's word will not return empty.  It will accomplish His desire and achieve His purpose.

I am captured.

Worries, doubts, fears...washed away...
Peace, hope, refreshing...wash over me...soak into me...

Yes, Lord, accomplish and achieve...in me...through me...despite me...

Let the rain come.
